Garden Update

It’s been rain-central in the Pacific Northwest, so it’s hard to remember that it’s already June!  While they’re a bit delayed, my plants definitely seem to realize that it’s supposed to be summer.  They are growing like crazy.

My strawberries are oh so tall.

The rhubarb has recovered well from its cross-country flight, although it appears something is munching on the leaves.

Raspberry starts from my lovely friend have decided that living with me is not so bad.

And fruit trees…

Fruit trees still feel like cheating to me.  They are so totally free food.  (Are these plums?  Anyone know?)

And last for today, but certainly not least, the potato condo.

What’s growing in your backyard?

Good information. Wish our garden in Wisconsin was as advanced in early June as yours. Our “Recession Garden” is in it’s second year, and is unique in that it is a round layout.

Ooh, I love your Recession Garden. The layout is great! And mine may be further ahead right now, but it’s really way behind yours. It looks like you are going to have such a wonderful variety of veggies when things start growing.

Jess those are most definitely slugs on your rhubarb. They may also be greengauge plums but it’s hard to tell from the picture. Maybe it will become more obvious as the season wears on.

It will be so fun next year when you have twice the amount of everything! Looks like you just need some blueberries now and your berry collection will be complete.

Bummer! Will rhubarb be ok with coffee to try to keep the slugs away?

I honestly can’t wait for next season! Or even later this season, once I get some more things started and growing (and once the free labor I like to call DH gets home :P ). I will definitely am going to put in some blueberries. Any suggestion on type? Yours seemed to be doing so well!

Jess, rhubarb should be happy with coffee. I’ve read it helps and then someone just told me the slugs are crawling right over it this year so poop. I have Chandler, Legacy, Rubel highbush and tophat compact. I also just added a pink lemonade this year but so far we’ve only eaten berries off the tophat. The flavor is good, they are very small berries but strong flavor. I am thinking about putting in more high or medium bush and shifting those somewhere else since I could fit so much more in that space than I currently have.
