At a previous countryside property I used to live at, this would have been ideal. Especially where the soil was more or less untouched by compaction.

In the city where I am at now, I find that just skipping the paper products and mulching seems to do the job; and networks well with our recycling program.

With a few inches of mulch, and no paper, I find that 98% of the weeds or grass die anyway, and minimal touch-up weeding is needed.

No rototiller, no gas! The only sad thing about that is that I don't get to cross an item off my booklet of tools in pursuit of my bizarre goal of renting and using every tool at my local shop.

This is a great process and I don't even need a rototiller and gas? The Mother Jones article was super. I will be following your progress eagerly.
